Indigenous artist Jessie Jannuska will guide you through the process of making a small beaded medicine bag with either a turtle design or tiny flowers. Learn about Jessie's beading practice and how it connects to her culture and artistic work.

Recommended Materials: seed beads (varieties of greens, red, and yellow), beading thread, beading needle and leather needle, 2 pieces of leather 3"x2" (see image below for shaping) with 6 holes along the top, 2 pieces thin ribbon/cord, 2 pony/plastic beads.
If you already have the recommended materials, great! If you need the materials, please contact spitman@reginalibrary.ca by Monday September 5th to pick up a free materials kit. Materials kits are only available for residents based in Regina SK, on a first come first serve basis.


Jessie Jannuska is a Winnipeg-based visual artist with mixed Dakota, Ojibway, and European ancestry. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors from Brandon University's Ishkaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art and is taking Graphic Design at Red River College Polytechnic. She has exhibited in over thirty group shows, and eight solo shows, in addition to four murals and two billboards. She primarily works in acrylic, watercolour, pencil, pencil crayon, beadwork, mixed media, murals and performance art.
