Prince of Wales Branch

Explore shared Pakistani-Indian culture with a talk, cooking lesson, and a vegetarian meal. Discover customs and history in this engaging program!

This is an in-person program. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell.

Registration: Registration opens on August 21, 2024, at 12:00 PM.

Attention: Please avoid attending the program if you've developed a spice intolerance.

All materials are provided.

In this program, we will explore some snacks from both cultures.

  1. Masala chai: It’s a very popular drink in India that can be easily bought from street vendors. These vendors who make masala chai, all have their own unique blend of chai spices as well, as you can probably guess.
  2. Chana Chaat: Chana Chaat is more in the category of party food, Ramadan food, or street food. Either way, it's in the category of easy to make, easy to eat, and healthy food.
  3. Sewayyian: One of those common sweet recipes, Meethi Seviyan, is made with whole wheat vermicelli. It is a dry version that is well-liked as a dessert during the celebration of any festival, like Eid.

The Global Neighbour Series warmly welcomes individuals of all faiths and backgrounds and is intended to foster an inclusive and respectful environment of cultural sharing. These programs do not seek to proselytize but celebrate different cultures with the goal of promoting mutual understanding and appreciation among all our neighbours!

Presenter Information: Originating in and growing up in India, in 2008, Shafaq Rehan relocated to Regina. With her passion for cooking, she is fond of playing with various recipes from different countries. She is also connected to the culture of Pakistan and knows lots of recipes from that nation.
