Kris Alvarez loves a good metaphor. She makes art like "that 80’s mom makes life": a flowered kerchief taming her unruly hair, heading to the lake in a two-toned station wagon, windows rolled down, blaring her favourite mixtape. "Jump into the back!", she says to friends she makes along the way, "No seatbelts - Dunno what time we'll get there - But there’s good snacks!"
Elevate (ELEV8) Music, a dynamic Afrobeats cover band, harmoniously formed in the summer of 2023 with a shared mission to elevate audiences through their soulful melodies. Comprising dedicated musicians, including David Shonibare and Joshua Olufemi on keys, Ukeme Abasi-Kokoette on drums, and John Olaleke on bass, the band's repertoire extends across a vibrant spectrum of African and other popular music. With a commitment to musical excellence, Elevate Music is a rhythmic force that seeks to uplift and inspire through its electrifying performances.
Zoë James has always loved expressing herself through dance, theatre, and music(Burnt Sienna, Sum Theatre, Choir of the Truly Unruly, Unravel and Thread). She shares her love of dance and performance through teaching(FadaDance). Zoë finds comfort in songwriting as a form of journaling, and enjoys getting to share her work with others. When she isn't singing(which is not often) you can find her buying unique earrings while drinking bubble tea. She loves performing as much as she loves the Regina Public Library and Dunlop Art Gallery.
Peace Akintade-Oluwagbeye (she/her) is an African-Canadian Interdisciplinary Poet, Public Speaker, Chorus-Poem Playwright, and Thespian residing in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. Organically from Yorubaland Nigeria, Peace explores the intersectionality of the artist community from an explorer's perspective, dipping her honey-stained fingers into poetry, dance, performance art, critical research, and the theatre world. She is the 11th Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan.
DJ Baby, Gabriel Coloma is a multimedia artist, most notably active in the psych hip/hop trio known as ‘THINKTANK’ as well as her own solo Pop project "MONK". Adapting a creative arsenal including lyricism, production (both musical and visual), as well as songwriting, her art focuses on the journey of self-discovery and the practice of queer subsistence in our modern archetypical landscape. The task of examining the privilege to question traditional narratives while embracing fluidity can be thought of as the relative thesis that ties Coloma’s work together, highlighting the generational gaps and the colonial implications that a second generation immigrant grapples with as she comes to find who she is.
Geanna Dunbar is a Cree - Metis multi-disciplinary artist. Her trades include many mixed medias, spoken word, and body modification which entails body piercing, skin branding, tattooing and cultural tattooing (traditional practices of the Plains Cree skin stitching and hand poked). Located in downtown Regina, she works in many communities, her current work includes snow sculpting with the 2021 Frost Festival, Her murals with the Albert Memorial Bridge Foot Tunnel, Albert St Underpass as well as the corner of Saskatchewan Drive and Elphinstone. You will also see her seasonal window painting and chalkboard work with local businesses such as downtowns Fresh & Sweet, Vintage Vinyl and Bonzzinis Brew Pub located on South Albert. Currently collaborating with the Twinkle Star project, illustrating a children’s book and still writing her poetry, which often reflects real life issues, showcasing emotions as art. With a special interest in sustainable art and interdisciplinary community collaboration, Geanna often sets personal challenges that help her grow and deepen her relationship with her environment and with others.
