Presenter Information: Mahdi Mahdian is a visual artist. He earned his BFA in Painting from the University of Tehran in 2013, where he studied within a modern curriculum that combined traditional and contemporary approaches. In 2016, he completed a Master’s degree at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in Ukraine, receiving strong training in academic drawing and classical figurative painting. In 2025, he earned his MFA in Visual Arts from the University of Regina, where his work evolved into a more expressive and conceptually driven exploration of narrative painting, with an emphasis on self-portraiture.
Mahdi’s recent practice focuses on representational painting, particularly large-scale, life-size self-portraits that explore themes of masculinity, vulnerability, and cultural displacement. Drawing from Persian mythology, historical narratives, and personal experience, his work combines technical precision with symbolic storytelling. He currently lives and works in Regina, Saskatchewan.
