Our Lady of the Vapours is a project exploring desire, placemaking and optimism, encouraging viewers to imagine Queer space with infinite possibility. Paying homage to Saskatchewan’s Queer history, Our Lady of the Vapours guides viewers through a bathhouse in the collective imagination.
Our Lady of the Vapours consists of:
- a takeaway keychain bottle-opener
- a publication featuring a brief history of Saskatchewan bathhouses and vignettes of a speculative bathhouse
- a fifteen minute performance of the bathhouse vignettes
Luke’s performance is 15 to 20 minutes.
Immediately followed by:
9:00 PM: Gargorge - Viché-Boul Ra
Gargorge is a durational work and practice that generates a creature-like figure named the Gargazu. The Gargazu is a guardian primarily charged with the creation and maintenance of a gap–a Gorge–in efforts to build a physical and psychological distance from a world around it. This work is birthed both as a virtuosic artistic attempt and a practical technique for use in daily life as a Black Queer experience; It is a demonstration of tools that allow me to forge a personalized space where new/alternative possibilities for self can exist. Gargorge is the fabrication and defense of my BQ niche.
Ra’s performance is 25-40 minutes.
