Traditionally, ribbon skirts are worn by Indigenous women and girls during ceremony and special community events. Over time, ribbon skirts have evolved and are now seen at events to show support for causes. Women and girls wear these brightly coloured ribbon skirts to honour their ancestral practices and it’s a way to connect to their traditions and an expression of culture.
Learning outcomes: In this 2 day workshop, you will have an opportunity to make your own Ribbon Skirt, and to learn about its traditional significance.
This workshop is all inclusive and welcomes participants from all genders and identities.
Presenter Information:Katelyn Ironstar is an Indigenous artist from Treaty 4. She grew up in a powwow family and has been beading since the age of thirteen. Katelyn is the owner of a small business that specializes in providing high-end, personalized Indigenous corporate gifts and accessories to companies and organizations Canada wide. Katelyn also specializes in facilitation and providing cultural arts workshops for various organizations. She is passionate about sharing her talent.

Albert Branch is an inner-city branch that serves the North Central area of Regina. It is located in mâmawêyatitân centre, a one-of-a-kind facility shared by the City of Regina, the Regina Board of Education and Regina Public Library to that offers integrated services and resources and services to in the North Central community.
Albert Branch offers an extensive collection of adult, young adult and juvenile materials that support and reflect the members of this unique community. The Branch also offers programming that develops knowledge and understanding of the diverse cultural groups in Regina, while highlighting the Indigenous community.
The Albert Branch collection includes fiction and non-fiction titles, CDs, DVDs/Blu-ray, spoken word, graphic novels, magazines, family literacy kits, Indigenous language kits and access to all the RPL digital resources.
