Learning Outcome: The idea is to explore the three-act structure through Taste of Cherry, which is an excellent example of this form of storytelling. We’ll have coffee and tea available while we discuss the film and share our thoughts.

Exploring the Three-Act Structure through Taste of Cherry
- Part 1 Free Admission | Thursday November 12 - 7:00pm |Film Theatre, Central Library
What is a pattern story and how can we make use of repetition without sacrificing intrigue and surprise? This is a two-part workshop. The first part is the viewing of Abbas Kiarostami’s award-winning film Taste of Cherry (1997). We will watch the film together in the RPL film Theatre on the 12th of November. The following Thursday evening, we will come together again, this time to consider how the film’s protagonist, Mr. Badii, tries once, twice, and a third time to achieve his objective. This film screening is part of the Writer in Residence’s Writing in Community series.
- Part 2 | Thursday November 19 - 6:30pm- 8:30pm |Room CE-2, Central Library
This workshop builds of the previous weeks’ screening of Abbas Kiarostami’s award-winning film Taste of Cherry (1997). We will discuss the Three-Act Structure and consider how Kiarostami puts his protagonist, Mr. Badii, through the same sequence of events three separate times without once losing the viewer’s attention. How might we similarly employ circularity and repetition in our own fiction projects.
