Ages 11-14. Explore some of the issues facing pre-teen students, such as masculinity, emotional and mental health and how to be a positive ally and bystander – or, in other words, an Upstander!
RPL is proud to be partnering with YWCA Regina to offer Upstander for Youth program at Prince of Wales Branch. The Upstander program provides a safe space to empower boys and non-binary youth ages 11 to 14 to understand gender-based violence and become positive allies.
This program happens from 3:45-4:45 PM every Thursday for eight weeks ranging from October 26th to December 14th. Please plan to attend each week. Snacks will be available!
Girls and non-binary youth may be interested in attending GirlSpace held at Albert branch library during the same dates and times
We will approach Upstander with 3 overarching questions:
What are we talking about?
Why does it matter or how does it impact me?
How can I help make a difference
Week one: Introduction, group bonding, ice breakers
Week two: Gender – masculinity, femininity, health and toxicity
Week three: Emotions and Mental Health
Week four: Relationships and consent
Week five: Gender Based Violence and Rape Culture
Week six: Bystander Intervention
Week seven: Privilege and Allyship
Week eight: Self care / Community Care
